Aug 05, Michal Wigal added it Shelves: I picked this up hoping for a good discussion of the ills of the current school system, how they came about, and alternatives to it. Eye-opening and important, but very dry and not really what I was looking for.
But, I’m glad I read something by Chomsky rather than just watching all of his speeches. There are 55 pages in this page book that can be reasonably be described as being about education. Several chapters are available in other books.
The first chapter is an interview with Donaldo Macedo, short but interesting. If not for the billowing footnotes and rank nonsense, perhaps I might have enjoyed his very bullshit critique of education in the Western World.

I’d actually give 4 or 5 stars to the piece ‘Democracy and Education’ taken from Chomsky’s speech at Loyola endorsing and defending John Dewey.
