I got and read maarques books years ago but just did a reread recently livro they never seem to fail the senses. Sade can playful with his language and clearly loves telling obscene stories. At first I thought this was due to laziness on my part, but se further reflection, I think I have found the problem. Remember, this thing was written hundreds of years ago. The book is in love with the idea of an egoistic self that uses others in any way it likes and destroys them to gratify its power.
